Ridvan Yılmaz: Rangers sign Turkish defender from Besiktas

SKAUT reports with reference to Rangers' official newsletter that Rangers Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Turkish international Ridvan Yılmaz on a five-year deal from Beşiktaş.

Rangers have signed Turkey left-back Ridvan Yılmaz on a five-year deal from Beşiktaş for an initial fee of £3.4m that could rise to £5.3m with add-ons.


The 21-year-old played 72 times for Beşiktaş after coming through the youth ranks and has six caps for his country.


Speaking after agreeing to join Rangers today, Yilmaz commented:

“I am delighted to be joining a club the size of Rangers and am really looking forward to meeting my new teammates.“
“This is a club who have shown they can compete against some of the best teams in Europe, and I am really excited by the challenges we have ahead of us.“
“I have heard so much too about the Rangers supporters and I cannot wait to play in front of them for the first time.“

Manager van Bronckhorst continued:

“I am really pleased to have added Ridvan to our squad and I believe he will bring a lot of quality to the club.“
“I have been really impressed with his development in a really demanding, winning environment at Besiktas over the last few seasons.“
“I am looking forward to welcoming him to training in the coming days and to seeing him in action for the first time.“

A brief overview of Ridvan's career


Yılmaz spent all 10 years of his youth career in the academy of Beşiktaş. Yılmaz made his professional debut with Beşiktaş as a late sub in a 7–2 Süper Lig win over Çaykur Rizespor on 8 April 2019.


Yılmaz was called up to the Türkiye preliminary squad for Euro 2020. He made his debut on 27 May 2021 in a friendly against Azerbaijan.
